The common facial vein may (a) cross over the sternocleidomastoid muscle and open into the the external jugular vein; (b) open into the anterior jugular vein; run beneath the posterior belly of the digastricus and stylohyoid muscles; and (d) receive the lingual vein, pharyngeal vein, or both, and the submental vein. The anterior facial vein may receive the angular, the posterior facial and the lingual veins.
