A single link with the phrenic nerve was the only connection, that was evident on the left sympathetic trunk.
Fetus 8. A distal intermediate ganglion (*) is attached by two roots to the middle right cervical cardiac nerve. The right vagus receives a thick sympathetic connection (arrow), and just below this point the vagus gives off two cardiac rami (vv).
On the left side the sympathetic trunk connects at the same level with the vagus and phrenic nerves (arrows)."
