Considerable variations have been reported in the course and development of the fissures and convolutions, not only in individuals but also on opposite sides of the same brain. These variations have not shown any constant relationship to age, sex, occupation, race, or intelligence.
The present system for enumeration of cranial nerves (CN) was proposed by Soemmering in 1778.
