Absence of thyroid isthmus. Lateral lobes each have pyramidal lobes

Pyramidal lobe arising from the union of the left lobe at the isthmus

Pyramidal lobe arising from the isthmus of the gland

Accessory thyroids may be located on the trachea, thyroid cartilage, thyrohyoid muscle, geniohyoid muscle, and hyoid bone, under and above the hyoid bone

Accessory thyroid gland on cricothyroid muscle. Pyramidal lobe reduced to left interior part of the isthmus

Persistent thyroglossal duct in an adult, originating at the foramen cecum of the tongue
