This section passes through structures anterior to the arch of the foot. It cuts the heads of the first (7), second (2), third (22), fourth (19), and fifth (16) metatarsals. It cuts the base of the first (6), second (1), third (23), fourth (20), and fifth (17) proximal phalanges.
The transverse head of adductor hallucis muscle (24) is identified. The thick plantar aponeurosis (25) is seen, and the fat pad of the foot (11) is exposed from the heel through the region of the arch.
